I recently listened to a Podcast by Michael Hyatt on focusing on a mourning routine. After listening to the podcast, which you can find here, I decided to update my mourning routine and start focusing on a few goals I had for this year. Below is the morning routine I started working on, and then my updated one that I am going to focus on for the rest of this month.
- 5:30 am – wake up, turn on my A.M. Yoga DVD and do 20 minutes of Yoga
- 6:00 am – Read the Bible for 20 minutes.
- 6:25 am – Take a shower
- 6:35 am – start breakfast, and get dressed
- 6:55 am – brush my teeth, get lunch items, say goodbye to Missy
- 7:00 am – out the door into the car for half hour drive to work. During my drive, I typically listen to a half hour podcast, which I will do a separate post on my favorite podcasts later this month.
- 7:30 am – arrive at work. Open up the office, turn on the computers and get prepared for work. I usually take a half hour to myself to read emails, check any voice mail, look at local news for any interesting breaking news, and check to see what blogs were updated that day to read later.
That has been my morning routine for the past couple of weeks. I haven’t done so well on my 5:30 am wake up, but after listening to Jon Acuff’s Quitter again, I have decided that “do it later Josh” no longer has a say in my morning routine. He had a say when I was putting together my following morning routine, and he has said he is good with it. I love it when all Josh’s are on the same page. They may not be later, but this is the moment that it matters.
My new routine is as follows:
- 5:00 am – wake up, turn on my A.M. Yoga DVD and do 20 minutes of Yoga
- 5:30 am – Read the Bible for 20 minutes.
- 5:55 am – Work on my blog (expect a lot of changes in the coming weeks)
- 6:25 am – Take a shower
- 6:35 am – start breakfast, and get dressed
- 6:55 am – brush my teeth, get lunch items, say goodbye to Missy
- 7:00 am – out the door into the car for half hour drive to work. Listen to podcast.
- 7:30 am – arrive at work. Open up the office, turn on the computers and get prepared for work. Read emails, check voice mail, check news and blogs.
So I have decided to be selfish in the morning, and give myself an extra half hour to begin working more on my blog. I started it just to start, now I need to focus on building the blog, working on the layout and especially the content, and begin blogging regularly. Again, “do it later Josh” had his say, and he thinks it’s worth it. Let’s see how it all turns out by this Friday!
